RS008| This is the current state of the "original" image of Ernestine Sohn and her husband, Solomon Lehman (left couple) and Rosa Sohn and Leopold Rothschild. in February 1900. The sisters were married in a joint ceremony. This is a "tintype" print. It is essentially a non-reflective photograph that was developed on a piece of tin (or iron), after which a dark enamel was applied. Besides being very dark, the image has numerous scratches that are so deep they brazed the image itself. This method was invented in 1856 and was used into the early part of the 20th century as an inexpensive method for reproducing images. The image, partially restored, follows.
