[Max] Arthur Adler, born in Hoeringhausen, 12 February 1899, and Margot (?); back of photo reads: Marseille, Canebiere 12-12-41, auf dem Wege zum Hafen; Margot traegt die "bagage." [on the way to the port, Margot carries the bags] . This photo is most curious. It appears to have been casually shot while the couple was walking on the street. The war was on, of course, so one can only wonder who took the photo and how it ended up in their possession. Street photographs are frozen moments in time. Who are the other people on the street? What happened to them? When the image is increased in size, one notices that the woman directly over Artur's right shoulder, as well as the woman to the extreme right, are both gazing at the photographer when the image was taken. The following image is a restored version of this photo. [ArcAdler 0014]
