This is one of 50 remaining "Judensau" sculptures adorning churches in Germany. The statue on the Stadtkirche of Wittenberg dates to 1305. Many wanted these vehemently anti-Semitic symbols removed after WWII, but the compromise in Wittenberg was to have a very powerful Holocaust Memorial placed directly underneath, with an extensive explanation of German anti-Semitism, in particular in the Wittenberg region.
