Our destination was the top of Mount Ida, a 12,880 foot peak. Here our destination is covered in clouds. We made it to within about a half mile, at which point it started raining. I figure we were at about 12,400, having ascended just over 2,000 in the first 1.5 miles. Unfortunately, we had to turn back as dark thunder clouds were visible in the distance (see images below). We actually did not see lightening, but more rain was on its way.
